Life Skills: How to Live a Christ Centered Life / 10.7.18

What MOTIVATES you?

A life devoted to things is a dead life, a stump;
a God-shaped life is a flourishing tree.
Proverbs 11:28 Msg

“Whatever we center our life on can become our God.” Bridges

What is a Christ CENTERED life?

A life that GLORIFIES God
Philippians 3:10 I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death.

A life RESTING in the finished work of Christ
John 19:30 When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

A life that is LOVE FOCUSED, not law focused
Luke 10:27 You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind. And, Love your neighbor as yourself.
Matthew 23:25 Hypocrites! For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy – full of greed and self-indulgence!

4 SECRETS to LIVING a Christ Centered Life

1. Understanding the fear of the Lord
Psalm 19:9 Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair.
Proverbs 16:6 Unfailing love and faithfulness make atonement for sin. By fearing the Lord, people avoid evil.

2. Having an AWARENESS of the presence of Jesus
Matthew 28:20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Psalm 119:33 Just tell me what to do and I will do it, Lord. As long as I live I‟ll wholeheartedly obey. (LB)

3. ASKING would this please the Lord
Proverbs 21:3 The LORD is more pleased when we do what is right and just than when we offer him sacrifices.
Psalm 147:11 The Lord is pleased with those who worship him and trust his love. (CEV)

4. Putting on the ARMOR of God
Ephesians 6:11 Put on all of God‟s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.

The BENEFITS of a Christ centered life

But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8

“Knowing and loving God is our greatest privilege, and being known and loved is God’s greatest pleasure.” Warren
