Poor in Spirit
Matthew 5:3 God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
1 Peter 2:2 Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment,
Matthew 5:4 God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Matthew 26:37-38 He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons, James and John, and he became anguished and distressed. He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”
Matthew 5:5 God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.
John 13:4, 5 So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him.
Hunger & Thirst
Matthew 5:6 God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.
John 4:34 Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.
Matthew 5:7 God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Hebrews 2:17 Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people.
Pure in Heart
Matthew 5:8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.
Luke 2:40, 52 There the child grew up healthy and strong. He was filled with wisdom, and God’s favor was on him. Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people.
Matthew 5:9 God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.
Ephesians 2:14,16 For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us. Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of his death on the cross, and our hostility toward each other was put to death.
Matthew 5:10 God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
Acts 13:28 They found no legal reason to execute him, but they asked Pilate to have him killed anyway.
