We must know God to know ourselves

Genesis 1:27 So God created human beings in his own image.  In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.



  • Holy

Isaiah 6:3 They were calling out to each other, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies! The whole earth is filled with his glory!” Revelation 4:8


  • Love

1 John 4:8,16 But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.


John 15:13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

  • Good

Mark 10:18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked. “Only God is truly good.


Exodus 34:6 The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out, “Yahweh! The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.



  • All-knowing

Psalm 147:5 How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!


  • Everywhere-present

Psalm 139:7 I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!



Matthew 19:26 Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”


How can I know God?


  • By Faith

Hebrews 11:6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.


  • By the Word of God

2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.


  • By Desire

Jeremiah 29:13 If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.


  • By Love

Matthew 22:37, 38 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.


Knowing God leads to eternal life and rewards

John 17:3 And this is the way to have eternal life – to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.
