Resolutions: Good or Bad?/12.31.2017

Resolutions: GOOD or BAD?

Are you satisfied with your spiritual life?

Do you feel loved? Do you have joy?

Do you have peace? Are you content?

Is there an area of your life where you are stuck?

Problem Solving

Identify the problem, Develop a solution, Work hard on the solution.

The Cycle

  1. You have a problem.
  2. You come up with a solution.
  3. You go out and try to apply it.
  4. You ultimately fail.
  5. You experience defeat and shame.
  6. You confess & “try harder.”

The Defeat  “Self Effort Christianity”

¨ What is the answer to my defeat?

Romans 12:2 (NIV) Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world (defeat, shame, depression, etc.), but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.

“Conformed to this world”

Does God love me? Is God’s will best for me?

I am not worthy of God’s blessings. I am a failure and a reject.

¨ How can I experience victory?

“Mind Renewal Christianity”

John 8:32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

God’s Tools

¨ The Armor of God!

Ephesians 6:13-18 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

¨ The Spirit: True Christianity is great news!

Galatians 3:3 How foolish can you be? After starting your Christian lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human (self) effort?

¨ The Truth: My victory has nothing to do with my ability.

Colossians 2:6-7 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

The Message

Romans 12:1-2 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life – and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
