Hebrews: Our Journey of Faith/10.1.2017

Never Give Up

Hebrews has often been called the “5th Gospel”

1st 4 Gospels = what Christ did on earth

Hebrews = what He is doing in heaven

Why did Jesus have to be born?

John 1:18 No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.

Why did Jesus have to die?

Galatians 1:4 Jesus gave his life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live.

Why did Jesus have to be resurrected?

1 Corinthians 15:14 And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless.

Why did Jesus have to ascend?

“Whatever happened to Jesus?”

He is our High Priest! Hebrews

Romans reveals the necessity of the Christian faith,

Hebrews reveals the superiority of the Christian faith.

4 Reasons Why I Should Never Give Up

 1.  God has spoken to us by His Son

Hebrews 1:1-2a Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son.

Matthew 7:24-27 Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.  But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

 2.  Jesus is Creator and Sustainer

Hebrews 1:2-3a God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command.

Colossians 1:17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together

3.  Jesus dealt with the problem of our sins

Hebrews 1:3b When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.

Philippians 2:8-11 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.  Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

4.  Jesus is Superior to _____________________

Hebrews 1:4, 13 This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names. And God never said to any of the angels, “Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.”

Philippians 4:13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
